10 Things I Wish I Knew Before My First All-Inclusive Trip

July 3, 2026

Going on your first all-inclusive vacation is SO exciting — and I want to make sure you're fully prepared to have the best time ever. Here are the 10 things I wish someone had told me before my first trip.

1. Book Specialty Restaurants on Day One

Most resorts require reservations for their à la carte restaurants. The second you check in, head to the concierge and book your dinners for the week. Trust me on this one.

2. Bring Cash for Tips

Even though tips are often included, a small cash tip for exceptional service goes a long way and is always appreciated.

3. Don't Stay on Property the Entire Time

As much as I love resort life, some of the best memories come from exploring local culture. Book at least one off-site excursion.

4. Arrive Early? Head to the Pool

Most resorts won't have your room ready until 3 PM, but you can usually access the pool, beach, and restaurants right away. Pack your swimsuit in your carry-on!

5. Download the Resort App

Most major resorts have apps now with restaurant menus, activity schedules, and reservation systems. Download it before you arrive.

6. SPF is Non-Negotiable

I cannot stress this enough. Apply, reapply, and then apply again. That Caribbean sun is no joke.

7. The Buffet is Great, But Try Everything

Don't just eat at the buffet because it's easy. The specialty restaurants are usually the best meals on property — and they're included!

8. Pack a Dressy Outfit

Most resorts have at least one upscale restaurant with a dress code. A nice sundress or collared shirt is all you need.

9. Get Travel Insurance

This isn't glamorous advice, but it's important. Protect your investment — flights get cancelled, luggage gets lost. Travel insurance has saved me more than once.

10. Relax and Let Go

You've paid for everything upfront. There's no bill to worry about, no decisions to stress over. Just... breathe. You earned this.
